About Us
Domtar Nekoosa has over 130 years of papermaking history in the greater Wisconsin Rapids area, and our employees are proud to call this area home. Although the company name may have changed several times over the years, our commitment to making the finest business and specialty papers remains as the top priority.
Throughout our history, Domtar has had to adapt to market changes right from the very beginning. In the early years, the mill produced newsprint, but later had to switch to wrapping papers (over 200 different kinds) after World War I when Canadian newsprint flooded the market. After World War II, there was a revolution in retail merchandising where everything was prepackaged vs. buying in bulk, which necessitated a change to fine writing papers (letterhead, better grades of printing paper, brochures, carbonless paper, copy machine paper, etc.).
The evolution of the Nekoosa mill continues today, as the digital age continues to chip away at market demand for paper. New product development is a cornerstone of the Nekoosa mill. Our specialty paper lineup includes food packaging such as bacon board and sugar pouch, colored papers, coating base stocks, security grades, book paper, and so much more. This agility and innovation has helped to keep the mill viable in an increasingly competitive market.
With an estimated economic impact of approx. $350 million on the local region, Domtar’s Nekoosa mill is proud to be a part of our local communities, and we take pride in the quality of our products and the fine work of our employees.
