Description
Households and farms use and store a variety of chemicals. Improperly stored or disposed chemicals can cause health problems and contamination of groundwater, surface water, soil and air. Clean Sweep provides Wood County residents and farms an opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted chemicals. Limited amounts of hazardous waste from households and farms and can be brought in free of charge for safe, convenient and legal disposal. Materials should be properly identified in their original containers with original labels. Do not mix substances together. Items accepted include unused chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, oil-based paints, cleaners, varnishes, wood sealers, auto and workshop chemicals, and other hazardous products. Quantities are generally limited to 5 gallons or 50 pounds. Mercury thermometers and thermostats will also be accepted. Tires, latex paint, motor oil, antifreeze, fluorescent bulbs and appliances will not be accepted. Products that are brought in and are still usable will be made available to other Clean Sweep participants at no cost. Agricultural chemical pre-registration is mandatory for quantities over 200 pounds. Businesses can also participate in Clean Sweep to dispose of unwanted chemicals in an easy, low-cost way. To obtain a free, no obligation disposal estimate, contact Chris Bahlow, Veolia Environmental Services, by August 28th at chris.bahlow@veolia.com or 715-298-2623.
