STAR BUSINESS MACHINES is seeking a hands-on, hardworking, and customer focused individual with strong computer skills, electro-mechanical aptitude and exceptional trouble shooting skills to join our team as a Field Service Technician.
You will work from our Stevens Point office and travel on-site to ensure long-term customer satisfaction through regular maintenance of our product offerings.

Industry experience servicing copiers/office equipment and cash registers/point-of-sale systems or IT related background is a plus

Shift: First, Monday-Friday 8:30 – 4:30

Job Type: Full-time, Regular Hire

Pay Range: $15-25 Compensation based on experience; a good technician with our company will quickly earn above the national average.

Hours: 35-40

Responsibilities:
  • Receive, prioritize, and accurately close service calls in a timely fashion
  • Accurately set-up, install, troubleshoot, repair and modify office equipment to optimal condition within published electrical, mechanical, and print machine specifications
  • Program, install, troubleshoot, and support point of sale systems
  • Verify and update firmware and software
  • Provide preventative maintenance and networking support as needed
  • Manage and maintain accurate parts and supply order and inventory, and work with office and various vendors to track orders to minimize customer machine downtime
  • Adequately and efficiently utilize parts to maximize machine reliability and keep up with part life yield, to prevent using unnecessary parts or wasting time
  • Develop and maintain good customer relations with existing and new customers
  • Maintain calm demeanor while discussing situations with customers and listen to all necessary and pertinent facts, prior to offering a solution
  • Complete required administration procedures and data collection, completing all paperwork neatly, accurately, and on time
  • Communicate equipment problems and solutions to fellow technicians and management
  • Work with all co-workers as necessary to facilitate a solution for customer issues and seek guidance on all customer equipment, maintenance contracts, leases, and other daily situations that may arise
  • Properly maintain ownership of tools, laptop, service vehicles, multi-meter, and other equipment as assigned
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of industry and product offerings, through online training, manuals, and off-site training opportunities and continue advancement in training as technology advances or changes
  • Apply skills and knowledge to recognize equipment hardware and software upgrade opportunities to contribute to company revenue
  • Present a positive image on the job and in the community through proper attire, communication skills, and personal grooming
  • Maintain availability for additional projects or after-hours support calls as required, after probationary period

On Each Service Call You Will:
  • Maintain consistency on every service call to provide all customers with upmost care
  • Offer exceptional customer service
  • Troubleshoot through logical step-by-step process of elimination to properly address and fix issues
  • Thoroughly clean machine
  • Verify and update firmware and software
  • Adequately and efficiently utilize parts to maximize machine reliability and keep up with part life yield, to prevent using unnecessary parts or wasting time

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Ability to lift, bend, climb, crouch, stand for long periods of time, position self around equipment, pull and push heavy machines, & transport items to and from vehicles and buildings
  • Exceptional mechanical comprehension
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and capacity to be trained
  • Self-sufficiency as it relates to constant refining of interpersonal and technical skills
  • Ability to adapt to stress and customer equipment challenges and multi-task with minimal direction

  • Background in field sales or field technician experience with knowledge in office equipment, point of sale systems, and CCTV systems a plus. IT experience required; A+ Certification preferred.
Travel Requirements: Valid driver's license and good driving record

Education and/or Experience: Certificate, Associate's degree, or bachelor's degree in electronics/electro-mechanics field or equivalent background, with at least 2 years of field service experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
