City of Wisconsin Rapids Announces Purple Heart City Designation and Veterans Honor Walk
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WISCONSIN – The City of Wisconsin Rapids will be formally designated as a Purple Heart City by the Wisconsin Military Order of the Purple Heart during a ceremony held on May 21 at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 430 W Jackson St. Purple Heart recipients are invited to participate in the event, so they can be recognized for their service and sacrifice. Laying of Flags on Veterans Graves - in Honor of Memorial Day
American Legion Post #9 members would like to invite local community members to assist in the placement of American flags on the gravesites of veterans to honor and remember their sacrifices to our country, as part of the community's Memorial Day activities. Honor Flight Returns to CWA - 1 June 2026
An Honor Flight will be returning to the Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA) on 1 June 2026. All Veterans and community members are asked to attend if possible. The Honor Flight flys veterans (WWII, Korea, Vietnam) to DC for the day then return back to CWA around 10pm. Cost for the trip is free for Veterans. Their return CWA is a huge public event where the halls are lined to give these Veterans a hearty welcome home. If you can come, please plan to arrive hours in advance, to ensure a parking space.
