Assembly Passes Legislation Helping Lower Housing Costs
(Madison) – Rep. Krug and the Wisconsin Assembly passed a package of legislation aimed at lowering the cost of housing across Wisconsin. Rep. Krug issued the following statement:
“When I am not working as your State Legislator, I work as a realtor. I see firsthand every day how the high cost of housing negatively impacts individuals and families in our communities. This week in the Assembly we passed a package of Republican-led housing initiatives to help address this problem.
“We removed local red-tape so that there are more multi-generational living options for aging parents or adult children. We also made important changes to local financing rules that will help communities grow their housing developments for single-family homes. Increasing housing supply will help lower costs.
“Additionally, after the State Supreme Court removed any legislative rulemaking oversight, unelected bureaucrats in the Evers administration are trying to implement restrictive and potentially damaging building code rules. These changes would make it more expensive to build housing, increasing costs for buyers as they look for a place to live. This week, we passed legislation to try and avoid those changes.
“Everyday living costs are at the front of everyone’s minds as they pay rent, the mortgage, groceries, and much more. I am proud of the housing affordability reforms we passed this week to help our communities.”
