WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WISCONSIN – The City of Wisconsin Rapids will be formally designated as a Purple Heart City by the Wisconsin Military Order of the Purple Heart during a ceremony held on May 21 at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 430 W Jackson St. Purple Heart recipients are invited to participate in the event, so they can be recognized for their service and sacrifice. Members of the public are also welcome to attend and join the community in showing their support.
The City of Wisconsin Rapids and American Legion Post 485 will hold the fifth annual Wisconsin Rapids Veterans Honor Walk from Memorial Day through Veterans Day. Custom banners celebrating veterans will be hung on light poles along Grand Avenue, from 8th Street to City Hall. Banners highlighting the City’s Purple Heart City designation will also be included in the Veterans Honor Walk. Booklets with maps and banner pictures will be placed inside select businesses along the route, as well as City Hall and McMillan Memorial Library.
“The Honor Walk and Purple Heart City designation are powerful reminders of the extraordinary people who have served our nation with courage and sacrifice. These honors reflect our community’s deep gratitude for those who have given so much to protect our freedoms, and they reaffirm our commitment to recognizing and supporting our veterans every day,” said Mayor Matt Zacher.
